South Belfast unionist move shows UCUNF strain – Lo

South Belfast Alliance MLA, Anna Lo, has commented on the call from the South Belfast Unionist Association for a single unionist Westminster candidate in that constituency by highlighting the reality that UCUNF remains mired in the old politics of sectarian headcounts.

Anna Lo MLA stated: “Already the strains in the UCUNF arrangement are showing. Clearly the rhetoric of a new non-sectarian dawn with support for a shared future has been exposed as completely shallow. The message that comes out from this is that what matters above all else is the stale old unionist versus nationalist sectarian headcount. We are not surprised at the stance of the UUP. The Conservatives need to reflect on what they have shackled themselves to.”
