Sectarianism should be challenged from start: Bell

Following the publication of a Queen’s University report for the Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Ministers (OFMDFM) on how sectarianism affects children, Alliance Deputy Leader Eileen Bell said:

“While we already knew that sectarian tensions have an impact on children in Northern Ireland, very little has been done to give them the opportunity to mix with children from other backgrounds, or learn about other cultures.

“I would urge the Government to consider the key recommendations of this report, which could help to combat the prejudice that many children grow up with. Initiatives such as integrated nursery care could be useful in challenging some of the stereotypes children are exposed to from the start of life.”
