Cllr Alan Lawther said: “Sammy Wilson is living in the past with these type of views on climate change. It’s depressing to think that this is man who is tasked with protecting the environment in Northern Ireland.
“I believe that his controversial remarks on climate change were designed to deflect attention away from the fact that the DUP are failing in government. They are failing to deliver and are scared that their grassroots are going to be annoyed if they have to make any concessions to Sinn Fein during their forthcoming talks.
“Sammy’s attitudes could possibly have been considered a bit of a fun when he was on the back benches. Now that he’s in charge of the Environment Ministry, they have become a nightmare. He is entitled to his own opinion but he should not be attacking green campaigners. He has enough enemies in this sector without causing any more rows.”
