Public meeting organised after homes are left without water

Strangford Alliance MLA Kieran McCarthy has arranged a public meeting to allow Portaferry residents to air their views after their homes were left without water last weekend. The meeting is taking place on Wednesday 8 April at 7pm at the Market House in the Square in Portaferry. An official from NI Water will be there to explain what happened and answer questions on the issue.

Kieran McCarthy MLA said: “I have asked NI Water to send a representative to come and face local people and be accountable for this failure.

“People are very concerned that this could happen again and need reassurance that NI Water will do all in their power to prevent this from occurring.

“I am pleased that NI Water has agreed to send an official to come and talk to local people, because they deserve to have their concerns heard and questions answered. I had hoped to arrange the meeting for this week, but unfortunately this date was the earliest that their representative could manage.

“This loss of the water supply was an unacceptable state of affairs. It took far too long for the service to be reinstated and homes, businesses and farms in the area suffered severe inconvenience.”
