Private referral move is another health bodyblow

Alliance Party Health Spokesperson, Kieran McCarthy MLA has expressed disgust at yet another bodyblow to our health service. The Belfast Health Trust is temporarily suspending private referrals for operations which could mean waiting lists will grow.

Kieran McCarthy MLA stated: “This is yet another bodyblow to health services in the Belfast area. People will be very angry that waiting lists are likely grow due to this measure.

“This is a time for cool heads within our health system. If efficiencies are to be made they must come from the administrative sector of the service. We need a sensible and logical approach to be taken to ensure frontline cuts can be avoided.”
