O’Lynn shocked by Ballymena incident

Alliance Ballymena Councillor Patricia O’Lynn has said she is shocked after two men falsely claiming to be from Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) attempted to gain entry to the home of an elderly disabled woman.

The incident took place yesterday (Friday) around 4pm at Dunclug Gardens in the town. The men stated they were from NIE and were there to check electrics. When the woman refused entry, one man tried to forcibly push his way in but a dog at the property prevented it. The men are described as wearing black coats, hats and masks.

“This is a shocking incident and my thoughts are with the woman who went through this terrifying experience,” said Councillor O’Lynn.

“I would urge all members of our community, particularly older and more vulnerable people, to be wary of cold callers at their door – always ask for identification and check with the company itself if you are unsure. Genuine workers will not mind providing you with proof as to their identity.

“If anyone has any information on this incident or those behind it, please contact police with it so we can help prevent anyone else being a potential victim.”
