No place for so-called punishment shootings, says Higgins

There is no place for so-called punishment shootings in our society, Alliance West Belfast representative Donnamarie Higgins has said, after a man in his 30s was shot in both legs.

The attack, which was reported yesterday (Thursday) around 8:10pm, took place in Downfine Walk in Turf Lodge. Ms Higgins said guns should not be on our streets.

“My thoughts are with the victim of this brutal attack and I hope he makes a full recovery,” she said.

“There is no place for these so-called punishment attacks and those behind them speak for nobody in the community. No matter the situation, people taking the law into their own hands is never the answer, and bringing violence onto our streets needs to stop.

“I appeal to anyone with any information on this incident to contact police with it.”
