Cllr Billy Webb said: “I have seen the devastation of the fire myself, it is a horrific scene. It is heart breaking that the memories and possessions of this family have gone up in smoke and have been lost forever. My thoughts are with this family at what must be an extremely traumatic time for them.
“This was an extremely large fire in a residential area but luckily everybody was able to get out in time and fortunately no one was injured in this fire.
“Tonight we have seen the professionalism of the fire service and police who have reacted quickly to this incident and are providing support to those affected by this fire. I would like to add my praise for their actions this evening. The local community has rallied round those who have been put out of their homes by this fire and have looked after them and given them a place to sleep tonight. This was a real community spirit and should also be rightly praised.
“I would appeal for anybody who any information about the cause of this fire to contact the police. I think the local community would be saddened and angry if it turns out that this fire was started deliberately. “
