New dentists good news but we need them quickly

Alliance Health Spokesperson Kieran McCarthy MLA has welcomed news that almost 40 new NHS dentists are to be appointed to address the lack of dental provision in some areas of Northern Ireland. He did, however, say he was concerned that it may take quite a long period of time to get the new dentists in place and urged the Minister to try to speed up this process as much as possible.

Kieran McCarthy MLA said: “I am very pleased that action has been taken to provide extra dentists in areas that really need them across Northern Ireland.

“Lack of NHS dental provision is a very serious problem and I sincerely hope that this move will help alleviate these concerns.

“It is quite staggering and deeply worrying that some are having serious difficulties in finding an NHS dentist. Decisive action was needed and I am pleased at this announcement.

“My only concern is that it may take quite a long period of time to get all these new dentists in place and I would urge the Minister to try to speed up this process as much as possible.”
