New Alliance Councillor selected for Castlereagh East

The Alliance Party has selected Sharon Lowry to replace Tim Morrow, who has resigned as Councillor for Castlereagh East, which comes under Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council.

Mrs Lowry, who has lived in Dundonald for 11 years, works as the Alliance Party General Manager, and previously worked for the Northern Ireland Local Government Association as their Head of Corporate Services. In her current job, Sharon has guided Alliance through 8 election campaigns, during which time the Party has enjoyed a huge increase in the number of members and supporters, resulting in many election successes.

The selection took place at a meeting of Alliance members, where Mrs Lowry said: “I have lived in the Castlereagh electoral area for 11 years and have seen first hand many of the issues that concern residents. Issues such as car parking, planning and the need for appropriate infrastructure to support new developments. I look forward to working with the strong team of Alliance Councillors on Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council to promote the best interests of residents and businesses. I am passionate about the aims and values of Alliance, and everyday in my new role I will strive to promote inclusivity and work for everyone.

“Tim Morrow has been a great Councillor for the people of Castlereagh East and I have a big pair of shoes to fill, but I am up for that challenge.

Tim Morrow said: “It is with great sadness that I am stepping down as Councillor, but I know that in Sharon, the Party has selected a strong voice for the people of Castlereagh East. I wish her well for her time in Council.”
