The East Antrim Alliance Representative said: “I welcome this move by the Lithuanian Ambassador Vygaudas Usackas to provide a temporary consulate to tackle hate crimes in the area.
“It is a very sad indictment on Northern Ireland that such provisions must be made, but hopefully this move will be successful in cracking down on racist thugs.
“The police must use the hate crimes legislation to prosecute anyone involved in racist incidents.
“The legislation is there and must be enforced fully, because too many people are getting away with committing vile racist acts.
“I would also call on anyone who witnesses or experiences racist incidents to inform police immediately. This is essential, because if all incidents are reported then more resources can be allocated to tackling hate crimes in Northern Ireland.
