Need for DRD Minister to reassure public following fires on two trains – Dickson

Alliance Regional Development spokesperson Stewart Dickson MLA has said that the DRD Minister must reassure the public following fires on two trains in less than 24 hours. Fires broke out last night on the cross border Enterprise train and the Portadown train this morning. Nobody was injured in either incident.

Stewart Dickson MLA said: “The Regional Development Minister must reassure the public following these two fires. Incidents on trains can have very serious consequences, so the Minister must give this a high priority.

“We have a great public transport safety record in Northern Ireland. However, there will be a concern that we have had two fires on trains in such a short period of time.

“I would like to praise the response by the emergency services to these incidents.

“I have asked the Minister to come to the Assembly on Monday to provide answers, I hope the Speaker accepts my request.”
