Alliance Councillor Peter McReynolds has secured a lasting legacy for all the beautiful artwork celebrating the NHS which residents across Northern Ireland have been proudly displaying.
Not only will the existing artwork be displayed in hospitals as a reminder of this time, but the Department of Health is seeking to work with the Department of Education aiming to use the project to help children process their feelings in the aftermath of the pandemic.
Peter said: “A few months ago a local parent contacted me to see if our hospitals could one day reuse many of the rainbows we now see in homes across Northern Ireland.
“I have been absolutely blown away by the beautiful artwork we see everywhere we go and can’t think of a better way to remember not only this as a tough time and our immense gratitude for NHS workers, but the strength and resilience of our community as a whole.
“I’m delighted to see this idea has been so well received and that some of the artwork will be displayed as we move past covid-19.
“This has been a tough time for so many, but for the very young it is extremely hard to know exactly how they are processing the major changes in their lives. That’s why I’m glad to see this idea could also help children express their feelings as they begin to understand our new normal.”
