Alliance Councillor Philip McKinney has encouraged people to attend an open day showcasing a local Islamic centre this weekend.
The North-West Islamic Community Centre in Hyde Business Park on Pennyburn Industrial Estate will be opening its doors on Sunday (September 22) between 1pm and 5pm. It is designed to give people an insight into the life of the Muslim community and to promote greater understanding of Islam.
“Our community is strengthened by diversity and the Muslim community plays a major role in that,” said Councillor McKinney.
“I am delighted the Islamic Community Centre is opening its doors to show people from all walks of life what it is they do and just how much we all have in common. They play a significant part in fostering good community relations and an event like this will strengthen that.
“I encourage as many people as possible to take the opportunity to participate in this important occasion and to learn about a culture that while may be different from their own, is just as important in the united community we all seek to build.”
