McCudden shocked at vicious assault on elderly man in Newtownabbey

Alliance Newtownabbey Councillor Pat McCudden has expressed his shock after an elderly man suffered cuts to his face and a suspected broken ankle following an assault in his own home by an intruder. The 72 year old man returned to his house on the Doagh Road on Saturday night to find the intruder who then assaulted him before fleeing the scene.

Cllr Pat McCudden said: “I am shocked at how vicious this assault was, especially as it was done to such an elderly man. I hope this gentleman will be able to make a swift recovery from the injuries he sustained. This must have been a very traumatic experience that he was subjected to.

“This intruder is obviously a very dangerous individual who has no regards for the well being of others.

“I would urge anybody with any information about this incident to contact the police.”
