McCarthy welcomes report that advocates Integrated Housing

Alliance Chief Whip Kieran McCarthy MLA has welcomed the report by the Independent Commission on the Future of Housing in Northern Ireland, which called for more housing developments to be integrated.

Kieran McCarthy said: “I am glad that this report has supported integrated housing, a stance that the Alliance Party has long been advocating.

“Housing is one of the areas that contributes to the wasting of £1 billion a year on a segregated society. By moving towards integrated developments we could cut down on this wastage.

“I was particularly heartened by the report’s author Lord Best who commented that if more shared housing is adopted then Northern Ireland could become a leader for Great Britain in this area. This is what we could achieve if we move towards a Shared Future.”
