Kieran McCarthy MLA said: “Just like other groups who receive support in the event of extreme weather, I am glad that the Agriculture Minister has pledged £400,000 to help those fishermen whose trade has been badly affected by the recent storms.
“We have a proud history of fishing in Northern Ireland and I would be greatly saddened if we were to lose such a great tradition.
“I am also pleased that the Department of Agriculture is looking to see what can be done to secure the long term sustainability of this sector.”
