McCarthy tells Sinn Fein and DUP to get back to work

On the day that the DUP and Sinn Fein are starting talks to break the deadlock, Alliance Chief Whip Kieran McCarthy MLA has told them to get back to work now because Northern Ireland is suffering every day that the Executive fails to meet.

The Opposition MLA said: “I want to tell the DUP and Sinn Fein to get back to work now. We have had almost three months without a truly functioning Executive and that is simply unacceptable. Northern Ireland suffers with every day that the Stormont Executive fails to meet.

“The Executive has taken the longest Summer holiday I ever seen and local people are thoroughly annoyed at their failure get down to work.

“We have chaos over the 11-plus, the planning backlog growing by the day and weeds growing over the Maze site. People are sick of the brinkmanship and threats emanating from the Executive parties. The public wants and needs a government that works – this one quite clearly doesn’t.”
