Kieran McCarthy MLA said: “The Health Minister must intervene in the plans by three Health Trusts to close all their care homes. They should be looking to keep open the care homes that are sustainable rather than just closing them all with very little regard for the elderly residents.
“I am disappointed that the Trusts have broken the promise in the Transforming Your Care plans which indicated that only half of the care homes would be closed. It does not give us much trust in the rest of their proposals.
“There appears to have been a lack of consultation with the residents and their families which has resulted in confusion and great anxiety. The Health Minister must display some leadership and show that he has the final say in his own Department.”
