McCarthy praises McMillan Cancer Support on benefits awareness work

Alliance Health Spokesperson Kieran McCarthy MLA today chaired a Macmillan Cancer Support event at Stormont aimed at making people aware of the poverty facing people with cancer. He praised the excellent work that the charity carries out and encouraged people with cancer to make sure that they find out about all the benefits they are entitled to, as many currently miss out.

Kieran McCarthy MLA said: “People with cancer can sometimes face poverty, because some may not be able to work full-time. They might also face increased living costs, like heating bills and transport expenses.

“Cancer affects so many people in our society that more awareness of its full impact is essential.

“Many people with cancer are often unaware of the benefits they are entitled to, and this event was all about raising awareness so that people get the support they need and deserve.

“Macmillan Cancer Support has produced an excellent booklet on benefits that makes everything very clear for people who may never have claimed any ever before. McMillan has been doing a brilliant job and I fully support their campaign.”
