McCarthy offers sympathies to family of second swine flu death pupil

Alliance Health spokesperson Kieran McCarthy MLA has offered his sympathies to the family of the second pupil at Foyleview School to die after contracting swine flu. It is understood that Ashleigh Lynch is a fellow pupil of Orla O’Kane who died last week with swine flu. Five pupils in total at the school have contracted swine flu

Kieran McCarthy MLA said: “I would like to offer my heart felt sympathies to the family. No parent deserves to lose a child.

“Ashleigh is now the eighth person to have died after contracting swine flu, which shows the devastating impact of this virus.

“This death comes on the day when swine flu vaccinations are rolled out and this highlights the importance for pupils at special schools to receive their vaccination.

“As we come into the flu season I would urge everybody to ensure that they take precautions to prevent its spread. The Health agencies must be vigilant to contain any outbreaks.”
