McCarthy hopes all of the recommendations into dental hospital failings will be implemented

Alliance Health spokesperson Kieran McCarthy MLA has welcomed the full publication of a report into the failings at the Royal Dental Hospital which led to 117 patients being recalled. A summary of the report was published in 2011 but the full report has only now been published as some regulatory processes had not been completed. The Department of Health has said that most of the 42 action points have been implemented.

Kieran McCarthy MLA said: “I welcome the full publication of this report. Its release is important as we look to restore confidence in the dental services at the Royal Dental Hospital.

“While the Health Minister has made a written statement on this report, I hope that there will be a chance for Assembly Members to scrutininse him when the Assembly returns in September.

“I hope that all of the recommendations will be implemented in full. Lessons must be learnt from this incident.”
