McCarthy calls for somebody to be made accountable for Belvoir Park Hospital fine

Alliance Health spokesperson Kieran McCarthy MLA has called for somebody to be made accountable for the £225,000 fine imposed on the Belfast Health Trust by the Information Commission for the failure to secure patients records at the Belvoir Park Hospital.

Kieran McCarthy MLA said: “The failure to secure these patient records was a horrendous mistake and has now resulted in a large fine that the Belfast Health Trust can ill afford to pay.

“When people are crying out for cancer drugs and other treatments and services in our health service, why was this situation allowed to happen which has led to this large fine.

“Question do remain as to who is ultimately responsible for this debacle. Who will carry the blame for this fiasco? Somebody needs to be held accountable for this incident.”
