Máiría Cahill has been vindicated by Keir Starmer report – Dickson

Alliance Justice spokesperson, Stewart Dickson MLA, has welcomed the report by Sir Keir Starmer into the way the PPS handled the Máiría Cahill case. The report found that there were too many delays in the handling of three cases linked to her allegations. The PPS has apologised to Ms Cahill.

Stewart Dickson MLA said: “This report has vindicated Máiría Cahill and I welcome the apology that the PPS have made to her.

“I would like to again commend Máiría Cahill. She has shown such tremendous courage and bravery to publicly speak out about such difficult and personal issues.

“It is clear that there were failings in how her case was handled and I hope that lessons will be learned from this report. We must ensure that we do not let this happen to any other victim.

“The delays in her case are unacceptable and have clearly let down the victims of sexual abuse.

“I would again reiterate the Alliance Party’s call for anybody with information about any incident of sexual abuse to contact the Police.”
