Ciclovia Belfast will see cyclists of all ages and abilities ride along a car-free route from Botanic Gardens to City Hall on Sunday (October 4) to showcase cycling. The cycle freeway is free for anyone to cycle during the event, with a range of family fun events taking place in tandem.
East Belfast MLA Mr Lyttle, who is the Chair of the Assembly’s All-Party Group on Cycling, helped to organise the event. He said it was a perfect way to show the benefits of cycling.
“We have seen a recent growth in momentum for cycling in in Northern Ireland. We can still see the legacy of the Giro d’Italia in Belfast and I hope Ciclovia enjoys the same success.
“I hope through initiatives such as this, as well as the Belfast public bike hire scheme, we can see a mutual respect growing for cycling and cyclists, and a breakdown of the barriers currently preventing cycling becoming a main mode of transport for many people.”
