Alliance MLA Chris Lyttle has welcomed Sports Minister Carál Ní Chuilín to the Belfast Trojan’s final training session, ahead of their first ever Irish American FootballLeague Final in Dublin.
The local MLA praised the hard work and dedication of the East Belfast-based team, saying they deserve the recognition and support of the Sports Minister as they head towards the final in Dublin this Saturday.
A local success story, the Belfast Trojans have been growing a steady fan base in Northern Ireland for the past few years and have made it through to this, their first final, unbeaten. They will play the UL Vikings this Saturday, July 14, in the Tallaght Stadium, Dublin.
Chris Lyttle MLA said: “The Belfast Trojans are a real success story. The team has grown substantially in the past year and now has over 60 members, who are all displaying great ability and enthusiasm for the sport.
“The team have been working to build support for American football in Northern Ireland and deserve to be recognised by the Minister for their hard work.
“I want to thank the Minister for her support, which was a welcome boost for the players as they prepare for the final showdown with the UL Vikings.
“The Belfast Trojans are always looking for new members and I would encourage anyone with an interest in the sport, or looking to try something new, to attend a training session next season.
“This is an exciting opportunity for all involved and I urge people to get behind the Belfast Trojans and cheer them on to victory this weekend.”
The Belfast Trojans train at Shorts Playing Fields on the Holywood Road. No previous experience in playing American football is necessary. For more information, contact the team via email chairman@belfasttrojans.com
