Lyttle welcomes launch of Comber Greenway and Titanic Quarter cycle link

Alliance East Belfast MLA Chris Lyttle has welcomed the launch of the Comber Greenway and Titanic Quarter cycle link.

Chris Lyttle MLA said: “This new cycle link will help connect the people of East Belfast with the Titanic Quarter, and in particular the new Belfast Metropolitan College campus.

“By improving the cycling routes we can encourage more people to cycle around Belfast. We need to get more people out of cars and onto bicycles to reduce congestion and our carbon emissions. The health benefits can also be seen in those who lead a more active life.
“The popularity of cycling has increased with the victories of Bradley Wiggins in the Tour de France and local rider Martyn Irvine in the World Track Championships. I hope this new link will encourage more people to get on their bikes.

“This link has come about through the good work of Belfast Council, the East Belfast Partnership, Sustrans and the Department for Regional Development. This is an example of Local and Regional Government in partnership with the private and the third sector working on behalf of our community.

“The Titanic Quarter was previously an historic site, it is now a centre of regeneration. While this new cycle link will help connect it with East Belfast, I hope that we will see further links to connect it with other parts of the city.”
