Lyttle praises work of East Belfast Megabytes project at helping increase employment opportunities

Alliance Employment and Learning spokesperson Chris Lyttle MLA has praised the work of the Megabytes project in East Belfast that aims to help young people aged between 16 and 24 years old with no formal qualifications or work experience to consider self-employment. His comments were made after the Employment and Learning Minister, whose Department funds it, visited the project at Cityeast Business Centre on the Newtownards Road.

East Belfast MLA Chris Lyttle said: “It is through projects such as Megabytes that we can increase the confidence of young people to consider different options as they seek employment. The skills and experience that they can acquire during such projects can be very helpful in the success of a potential business idea.

“The Megabytes project has provided young people with skills in new media and online tools, which is becoming increasingly sought after by organisations as the internet side of business increases.

“I would like to pay tribute to the work of the Employment and Learning Minister and the staff in his Department for ensuring that initiatives such as Megabytes are able to help our young people, especially those with no qualifications or work experience, to gain employment.”
