Lyttle launches ‘Policy Calls to Action’ for children’s sector

Alliance OFMDFM spokesperson Chris Lyttle, who is Chair of the Assembly Group on Children and Young People, has helped launched the ‘Policy Calls to Action’ from Children in Northern Ireland, the regional umbrella body for the children’s sector in Northern Ireland.

The Calls to Action is a road map for the introduction of two policy mechanisms which it is hoped will deliver better outcomes for children and young people – A Statutory Duty to Co-operate and Children’s Budgeting.

Chris Lyttle MLA said: “We need to see government departments, local authorities, agencies, public bodies and all interested organisations working together in the planning, commissioning and delivery of services to achieve the best outcomes for all our children and young people.

“I am fully committed to achieving better outcomes for children and young people in Northern Ireland. At a time of scarce public resources, a joined-up approach to public policy, budgeting and spending is critical to meet needs of children and young people in our community.

“For me, creating better outcomes for children and young people is inextricably linked to the Programme for Government commitment to build a shared and better society. Spending focused on children and young people represents both a clear statement of what we value as a society, and a smart way to deliver value for money.

“I would like to congratulate Children in Northern Ireland for the work they are doing and I look forward to working with them on these important issues.”
