A murder investigation has been opened after the attack on the 45-year-old man in Cluan Place off the Albertbridge Road around 9pm yesterday (Sunday).
“First and foremost, my thoughts go out to the family and friends of the victim of this assault,” said Mr Lyttle.
“This was a barbaric incident, which has shocked people throughout East Belfast.
“Those behind this are clearly dangerous individuals who pose a risk to the entire community. Anyone with information on this incident should contact police with it immediately.”
