Lyttle congratulates Sydenham Residents & Belmont Primary School on Brighter Belfast Awards

East Belfast Alliance MLA Chris Lyttle has congratulated Palmerston Residents Association and Belmont Primary School on receiving Belfast City Council Brighter Belfast Environmental Awards 2010. Palmerston Residents Association received the Business & Community Partnership Award in conjunction with Translink for environmental improvements at Sydenham Train Station and Belmont Primary School the Judges Special Award for an exciting and imaginative project to turn a grey concrete waste area into an outdoor learning environment.

Alliance MLA Chris Lyttle said: “This is deserved recognition for the tireless and inspirational voluntary endeavour of Palmerston Road Residents Association, in particular Chairman Terry Hoey, who in partnership with Translink and other local business and community representatives have transformed Sydenham Train Station into a more safe and welcoming environment for local residents and visitors who would wish to stop at Sydenham to learn more about this community.

“The Belmont Primary School project is a great example of how teachers, pupils and parents can work together to ensure learning is continued outside the classroom and connected to the local environment in which our children and young people live.”
