Lyttle condemns burglary of pensioner in East Belfast

East Belfast MLA Chris Lyttle has condemned a burglary that saw four masked men hold a pensioner hostage in his home.

The Alliance representative said the incident, which took place around 10.15pm on Friday (September 11), would have been a “horrifying” one for the victim.

Two of the men who broke into the pensioner’s Dunraven Avenue home stayed with him, while the other two ransacked the property. It is not believed they took anything.

“There is no right-thinking person who will not be sickened by this incident,” said Mr Lyttle.

“I can only imagine how horrifying an experience it must have been for the victim and my sympathies are with him. Residents must be wary, particularly as regards their elderly neighbours, to prevent any repeats of this terrifying burglary.

“Those who carried out this attack need brought before the courts and I would urge anyone with information to take it to the police immediately.”
