After gaining and searching the pensioners’ home, thieves conned the pair out of their savings.
The East Belfast MLA said: “I am shocked at the despicable means these thieves went to in order to steal from two elderly pensioners. It is beyond unacceptable that anyone could bring themselves to target elderly residents in this way.
“The people responsible must be taken off our streets as soon as possible. My thoughts are with the victims and I would call on the whole community to be vigilant and look out for their neighbours.
“I have nothing but contempt for those involved and would urge anyone with information to contact the police immediately.”
