Lunn says prep school closures will hurt the public purse

Alliance Education Spokesperson Trevor Lunn MLA has said that any prep school closures will have a negative impact on public finances as they mean that the public purse will have to foot the bill for the cost of educating the children affected in the state sector. His comments come following plans being outlined regarding the closure of Bangor Grammar Prep School.

Lagan Valley MLA Trevor Lunn said: “As a result of any prep school closures there will be more pressure placed on our public finances. Every time a prep school closes it means the public purse has to foot the bill for the full cost of educating these children.

“Unfortunately, as other prep departments are bound to have similar problems to those facing Bangor Grammar’s, this creates more cost to our budget at a time of serious financial pressure.”
