Trevor Lunn MLA said: “It’s a pity that this action was taken in the first place by the Orange Order. I hope as a result of this announcement they will now look to scrap this rule.
“The Orange Order must demonstrate they want to see a shared future and I believe that it is essential that they get rid of the rule forbidding members from attending Catholic mass.
“Apart from anything else, I have seen on many occasions members of the Orange Order paying their respects by attending a Catholic funeral service without any action being taken.
“I also believe that if the Orange Order does not scrap this rule, Ulster Unionists who are involved in the organisation should examine their links with the organisation.”
