Lunn says Executive must address 11-plus and fuel poverty now

Lagan Valley Alliance MLA Trevor Lunn has called on the Stormont Executive to make progress on the 11-plus and fuel poverty in their meeting tomorrow and said the public cannot be left waiting any longer on these issues.

Trevor Lunn MLA stated: “There is no honeymoon period now. I want to encourage the Executive to address the 11-plus issue and implement measures to tackle fuel poverty urgently.

“The Executive settled for the easier announcements in their first week back and they must not ignore the more difficult issues any longer.

“Last week, Alliance submitted a request for the Assembly to hold extra sittings in the coming weeks so that more Executive business can be completed. Extra sittings are important not only to address the current economic climate, but also to deal with the many big issues that the Executive failed to tackle before the stalemate.

“The last 11-plus test has come and gone without any concrete announcements on what will replace it. Winter has come and still no measures have been put in place to tackle fuel poverty. The public will not tolerate any more delays.

“When the deadlock was broken last week, Sinn Fein and the DUP were at pains to say that they were going to get back to business quickly. The public is still waiting for them to address the 11-plus and fuel poverty, and they remain to be convinced about the ability of this Executive to deliver.”
