Lunn: Police must investigate paramilitary gun salute at funeral

Alliance Policing Board member Trevor Lunn MLA has said that the Police must investigate reports that a masked man fired a gun over the coffin of Liam Mullhern in West Belfast on Sunday night. Mr Mullhern, who had dissident republican connections, died on Thursday in Craigavon Hospital after collapsing in Maghaberry prison last Monday.

Trevor Lunn MLA said: “Guns have no place on our streets. I am deeply concerned by this apparent paramilitary show of strength. Incidents such as this should be consigned to the past as we seek to build a safe and shared future for everyone in Northern Ireland.

“The Police must investigate this incident and seek to prosecute those who were involved with this paramilitary display. I am disgusted that there are still those who would seek to intimidate and create fear in the community.

“If anybody has any information about this incident then I would urge them to contact the Police.”
