Lunn offers support to Lisburn workers

Alliance Assembly candidate Trevor Lunn has expressed his shock at the closure of McGrath Bros engineering group in Lisburn.

Trevor Lunn said: “The closure of this Lisburn based business and the loss of 171 skilled jobs will have a major detrimental effect in this area and at the other sites.

“For over 30 years McGrath Bros has provided quality products for the construction sector and has worked on prestigious projects, including for the London Olympics.

“I would hope that the administrator will be able to find a buyer and save most, if not all, of the jobs. For those who may become unemployed, my office is available to offer advice and assistance. I know that my party colleague and Employment Minister, Stephen Farry, has staff available to offer guidance on alternative job or training opportunities. This service has proven to be very successful in helping people to develop their skills and find new jobs.

“With a new Assembly and Executive due in place next month, a key priority in the Programme for Government will have to be a commitment to support local employers and help to secure jobs.”
