Lunn hails community relations scheme and says time to end division

Alliance Education Spokesperson Trevor Lunn MLA has backed a new £250,000 reconciliation programme for schools and said it’s time that the Stormont Executive moved to end segregation. The Promoting a Culture of Trust funding initiative is being launched at Stormont today.

Trevor Lunn MLA said: “This is a very welcome initiative. However, there’s still much work to be done to create the united community that Northern Ireland needs in order to move forward.

“For example, the Stormont Executive must create plans and a timeframe for ending segregation in Northern Ireland. Ending division will not only improve community relations, it will also save precious public money. Given the difficult economic climate we find ourselves in, ending division should be even more of a priority for the Executive now.

“I am glad that a new community relations in education scheme is being launched and I hope it will be a springboard to increasing integration in our system. Schools should be integrated as standard and that should be a blueprint for a better future, both economically and socially.”
