Trevor Lunn MLA said: “I would like to pass on my congratulations to the thousands of pupils who have achieved excellent exam results today. After two years of hard work and determination I hope the majority have received the desired results to move on to the next phase of their lives.
“It is also refreshing to see the range of subjects taken, equipping the next generation with the skill set to grow the Northern Ireland economy.
“Young people today now have many opportunities after completing their A-level studies and while many may choose the university path, there are many other openings for them to explore. Further education colleges, apprenticeships and going straight into employment are all viable options.
“Today is not only a proud day for those getting results, but for the teachers and family network who have taught, supported and encouraged students during the past two years of intense study.
“Unfortunately there will be some who are disappointed today, who did not get the required grades for their chosen university. For those students I urge them to avail of the careers service help line for students by telephone 0300 200 7820 or by visiting the website www.nidirect.gov.uk/results.“
