Lunn comments on police station closure plan

Lagan Valley Alliance MLA Trevor Lunn who sits on the local District Policing Partnership has said that putting more police officers on the beat has to be the main priority and a balance must be found to ensure there is strong station cover too. His comments come following news that Hillisborough, Ballyclare and Randalstown police stations could close in future.

Trevor Lunn MLA said: “The public want to see more police on the beat across Northern Ireland. To put more officers on the beat, we need to make the best use of the scarce resources available here.

“I can however understand some people’s concerns on this issue, and we need to provide the best service possible for the community. A balance needs to be found to provide more police on the ground whilst ensuring areas have strong cover in relation to stations.

“It is important however that more police can get out on the street, instead of having to sit behind a desk in a station.”
