Trevor Lunn MLA said: “There is never any excuse for violence on our streets and I completely condemn this attack on the PSNI. I send my sympathy and best wishes to the injured officers.
“Police officers have a duty to uphold the rule of law and they should be able to carry out this role without coming under attack. Last night officers were there to protect the whole community and it is disheartening they were unable to peacefully carry out this vital role.
“Those involved in attacks last night have done nothing to highlight their cause. This type of behaviour must not spill over into other planned events this weekend and I would urge anyone with information about these attacks to contact the police immediately.
“Feile an Phobail is in full swing at the moment, indeed I was at an event last night myself and this type of action only distracts from all the good things which are happening.”
