Long welcomes reports that rapid transit system will not go down Comber Greenway

Responding to reports that the Comber Greenway will not be used as the planned route for a rapid transit bus system, East Belfast Alliance MP Naomi Long, who has campaigned to ensure that the Comber Greenway is not chosen as the route said that this would be a victory for common-sense. An announcement on the issue is due to be made next week.

Naomi Long said: “If what has been reported is announced next week and the Greenway is not going to be used as the route for a rapid transit bus system, then this is absolutely excellent news for all of East Belfast.

“The Comber Greenway is a very important green space and leisure amenity for the people of East Belfast and must remain so.

“Alliance has campaigned for a long time to protect the Greenway and ensure it is not chosen as the route, and if this is confirmed next week this will be a victory for common-sense.”

East Belfast Alliance MLA Judith Cochrane said: “There is very strong public opinion that the Comber Greenway should not be chosen as the route. The Greenway is a much valued open space which is use by walkers and cyclists, and should be retained and protected as the important resource it is.”
