Long welcomes removal of new LVF flags

ALLIANCE Assembly member for East Belfast Councillor Naomi Long has welcomed the removal of 50 LVF flags from Knocknagoney and Garnerville this afternoon.

Cllr Long, who is also chair of the East Belfast District Policing Partnership sub-group, said:

“I welcome the action taken by the PSNI to remove these flags. They were put up not just to intimidate ordinary people, but in defiance of law and order. The police have made the right decision and I congratulate their actions today.

“Such moves are helping to enhance the community’s confidence in the PSNI, by showing that they will not tolerate such symbols of paramilitary intimidation.”

Cllr Long has been in discussions with the PSNI since the flags were erected last Thursday over their removal.
