Naomi Long MP said: “It is very important that people are aware of key issues regarding diabetes. Many people with the condition may only have a few hours contact each year with a health professional. Diabetes Week will help publicise the difficulties faced by people with the condition in getting the support they need.
“A Diabetes UK survey found that 42% of people would have liked to talk to someone after their diagnosis to help them cope with the condition. This clearly illustrates how important raising awareness around diabetes is.
“A key element of the week is to highlight the importance of talking about diabetes. So many people around the UK have the condition and I strongly support this awareness raising and fundraising week. Many events will be taking place across the UK to mark the week and I would encourage people to take part in them.”
