Long says Youth Parliament members have bright futures ahead

Naomi Long MP has congratulated members of the NI Youth Parliament who took part in an event in Westminster today. Youth Parliament members got to engage in debate in the chamber of the House of Commons, presided over by Speaker, John Bercow MP.

The MP for East Belfast said she was very impressed by their performances, after she watched them taking part in debates this morning.

Youth Parliament members from across the UK met at Westminster today to debate issues important to them and gain a real life insight into frontline politics.

Naomi Long MP said: “I was delighted to meet members of the NI Youth Parliament at Westminster this afternoon. I also had the opportunity to see them in action as I watched some of them take part in debates, including from the front benches.

“I was hugely impressed by the talent on display and want to congratulate them all. It is clear that they have very bright futures ahead of them, sentiments I passed on when I met the participants in person.

“The Alliance Party believes in youth participation at every level and it is important to give young people a voice and make sure their opinions on issues affecting them are heard. Their views are too often ignored in our society, so organisations like the Youth Parliament are essential in making sure young voices have an input into political debate.”
