Long says deal must deliver stable government

Following developments that suggest there will be a Conservative – Liberal Democrat government pact, Alliance MP Naomi Long said that the priority must be the creation of stable government, but that the Conservatives need to work to ease fears about cuts in Northern Ireland.

Naomi Long said: “We need stable government during this difficult economic time if we are to see the country emerge from recession and create the conditions for growth in Northern Ireland.

“Ultimately, the success of the new government will be judged on the economy and, in the case of Northern Ireland, whether it can deliver sustainable growth, and avoid deep cuts to public finances which could force is back into an even deeper recession.”
