Long extends condolences to family of Victor Gordon

Alliance Leader Naomi Long MLA has extended her condolences to the family of Victor Gordon, the veteran reporter who has passed away.

Mr Gordon, who worked for several newspapers, was most closely associated with the Portadown Times. He died on Sunday after a short illness.

“Victor Gordon was true gentleman and a gifted journalist, with both an eye for a story and the humour and compassion in his writing to make it come alive,” said Mrs Long.

“That talent was recognised by his peers and in the five regional journalism awards he won during his career. Whilst his name was synonymous with the Portadown Times, he was known and respected far beyond it and gave many young journalists a thorough grounding at the start of their career.

“I was privileged to know him personally and enjoyed chatting about politics, football, singing and my capacity to speak without taking a breath. His quick wit, sharp humour and graciousness will be much missed by all who know him.

“On behalf of myself and my colleagues I extend our deepest sympathy to Victor’s wife, Elizabeth, his son, Paul and wife Audrey, his daughters Heather and Fiona, and to his grandchildren, Cameron and Sarah, and the Gordon family circle.”
