Long condemns East Belfast interface violence

Alliance Deputy Leader Naomi Long MLA has blasted those involved in violent clashes at the interface between Albertbridge Road and Short Strand in East Belfast last night. Three police vehicles were damaged during the trouble but calm was restored at 12.30am.

Naomi Long MLA said: “This type of behaviour has no place in our society. Northern Ireland is moving forward and such trouble does nothing but damage the reputation of the area. What sort of message does last night’s violence send out to the wider world?

“Relations in the area have been good in recent years and I very much hope that last night’s incident is an isolated one.

“So much good work has been done at the interface in recent times. It would be very unfortunate if all these efforts are undermined by a small minority of troublemakers.”
