Long calls for independent investigation into roof damage

East Belfast Alliance MLA Naomi Long has called for the Civil Aviation Authority to conduct an investigation into whether damage done to the roof of a house near George Best City Airport was caused by an aircraft. About 30 roof tiles fell from a house in Parkgate Avenue at around 1pm on Sunday.

Naomi Long MLA said: “While I welcome City Airport’s investigation into this incident, I believe there needs to be an independent investigation into this incident.

“Local residents have real concerns and the least they deserve this issue to be full examined by the Civil Aviation Authority.

“If, after an independent investigation, it is found that a flight caused this damage then very serious questions must be answered on this matter and the wider issues surrounding the airport need to be considered in great detail.”
